Past Medical Missions

PAMA has conducted Annual “Balikbayan” Medical Missions to the Philippines since 2008. The tireless efforts of PAMA Volunteers together with the generosity of our donors have made it possible for PAMA to provide much-needed healthcare to various areas in the Philippines. Each year, PAMA provides free medical consultations, dental consultations and surgical procedures for hundreds of Filipino patients.

PAMA donates free medicines and provides the funding for all medical supplies and equipment needed for each project. Medical Missions are carried out in coordination with local Filipino medical staff to ensure self-sustainability of healthcare in their specific region. PAMA also provides local Filipino volunteer health workers with professional health training and education.

2008 PAMA Medical Mission

April 6-9, 2008
Polillo Medicare Hospital, Polillo Island
Quezon Province, Philippines

 

PAMA Volunteers: Dr. Grace Maano (Project Coordinator), Dr. Pat De Leon, Mr. Ernie De Leon, Ms. Jacquie Arnold

Mission Outcomes:

• Served approximately 1000 Filipino patients over 3 days
• 500 free medical consultations
• Free medications given to patients
• 300 dental extractions
• 12 major surgical procedures (including 1 cleft palate repair)
• 76 minor surgeries
• 58 circumcisions
• 5 tubal ligations
• 33 Paps smears
• Health training and education for 120 Barangay Health Workers in the areas of Basic Life Support and Obstetric Emergencies

2009 PAMA Medical Mission

April 13-17, 2009

Mission Outcomes:

• Served approximately 2000 Filipino patients across 4 municipalities: Gubat, Prieto Diaz, Barcelone and Bulusan
• Free medications given to patients
• Free health services including medical consultations, major and minor surgeries, dental extractions
• Vaccinations
• Health Education for 85 Barangay health workers in the areas of Basic Life Support, First Aid, Women’s health and Dental health

• 60 Major surgeries including 21 thyroid operations, 1 hysterectomy, 1 cholecystectomy, 12 hernia repairs and 5 Gastrointestinal surgeries
• Health training for 113 local health workers
• 56 Paps Smears

2011 PAMA Medical Mission

April 11-17, 2011
Oroquieta, Philippines

Mission Outcomes:

• Served 1938 Filipino patients over 7 days
• Free medications given to patients
• 70 major surgeries including cleft lip and palate repairs, burn reconstruction, thyroid surgeries, gynae-oncological surgeries
• Cataract surgeries
• Financial assistance for a paediatric patient to undergo a life-saving operation at a major hospital for a large cystic hygroma
• Medical and dental health education
• Basic Life Support training for nursing and medical personnel

Medical Mission conducted in coordination with Rotary Club of Gosford West, Rotary Club of Oroquieta Centennial, Ugnayan ng Pahinungod Volunteer Corps UP-PGH and the Local Municipal Health Office of Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental Philippines.

2012 PAMA Medical Mission

• Total patients – 2,047 in Aurora; 655 in El Nido
• Performed – 221 major surgeries
• Days 2-5: medical-surgical-dental mission x 4 days
•  Days 4-5: Health training of BHWs x 2 days on Basic Life Support, First Aid, Women’s Health, Family Planning and Dental Education.

2013 PAMA Medical Mission

June 8-13, 2013
Sasmuan and Lubao, Pampanga Philippines

PAMA Volunteers: Dr. Teofista de Vera & Mauricio de Vera, Dr. Corazon Francisco & Engr. Ferdi Francisco, Dr. Roger Fabian & 10 other volunteers, plus the cooperation of Aguman Capampangan Australia.

Mission Outcomes:

• Total Patients: 2,232 (Sasmuan – 1,650; Lubao – 82)
• 27 Major Surgeries; 44 Minor Surgeries; 11 Circumcisions.
